Terms of Service

Fair terms for a fair tool.

We wrote these terms to be clear and reasonable. StairMark is a planning tool, not a promise — and we think you deserve to know exactly where we stand before you trust us with your college journey.

Acceptance of Terms

  • By creating an account or using StairMark, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.

  • If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you must not use the service.

  • We may update these terms periodically — continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

Description of Service

StairMark is a decision-gate-driven college prep roadmap tool. Specifically:

  • What we provide

Personalized roadmaps, decision gate tracking, urgency windows, milestone reminders, financial aid estimates, and parent/guardian linking via ParentLink.

  • What we don't provide

StairMark is not a college admissions counselor, financial advisor, or legal advisor. Our roadmap is a planning tool — not a guarantee of admission, aid, or any specific outcome.

  • Accuracy

We strive for accuracy in deadlines, requirements, and cost estimates, but college policies change frequently. Always verify critical information with the institution or a qualified counselor.

Eligibility

  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account

  • Users aged 13–17 should involve a parent or guardian, and may use ParentLink to share their roadmap

  • You must provide a valid email address for account verification

  • You are responsible for ensuring your use complies with applicable local laws

Your Account

  • Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.

  • Accuracy

You agree to provide truthful information in your academic profile. Inaccurate data produces inaccurate roadmaps — garbage in, garbage out.

  • One account per person

Each user may maintain one account. Shared or bulk accounts are not permitted.

Acceptable Use

You agree to use StairMark only for its intended purpose — planning your college prep journey. You will:

  • Use the service in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations

  • Provide accurate information about your academic situation

  • Respect the privacy and decisions of other users (especially via ParentLink)

  • Report bugs, security vulnerabilities, or abusive behavior to us promptly

Prohibited Conduct

  • Using the service for any illegal purpose or to harm others

  • Attempting to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or our systems

  • Scraping, data-mining, or extracting roadmap data at scale without permission

  • Impersonating another person, institution, or counselor

  • Uploading malicious code, spam, or abusive content

  • Reverse-engineering, decompiling, or attempting to extract the source code of StairMark

  • Using the service to build a competing product or service

Intellectual Property

  • Our content

The StairMark name, logo, roadmap algorithms, decision gate definitions, UI design, and documentation are our intellectual property. All rights reserved.

  • Your content

You own your academic profile data, decision history, and any personal notes you create. By using the service, you grant us a limited license to process this data to deliver your roadmap.

  • Feedback

If you submit suggestions, feature requests, or bug reports, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use that feedback to improve StairMark.

Our Limitations

StairMark is a planning tool, not a promise. Please understand:

  • No guarantees

Following a StairMark roadmap does not guarantee college admission, financial aid, scholarships, or any specific outcome.

  • Not professional advice

Our content does not constitute legal, financial, academic, or psychological advice. Consult qualified professionals for decisions with significant consequences.

  • Service availability

We aim for high uptime but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. Scheduled maintenance will be communicated in advance when possible.

  • Third-party information

College requirements, deadlines, and costs are sourced from public data and may be outdated or inaccurate. Always verify with the institution directly.

Modifications to the Service

  • We may add, modify, or discontinue features at any time to improve StairMark

  • We will provide reasonable notice before removing features you rely on, when feasible

  • Significant changes to the service or these terms will be communicated via email or in-app notification

Termination

  • By you

You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. All your data will be purged within 30 days.

  • By us

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where circumstances allow. We will not terminate accounts without cause.

  • Survival

Sections on intellectual property, our limitations, and prohibited conduct survive termination.
