Regular Decision (RD)

The standard application deadline (usually January), with decisions by April.

Deep Dive & Explanation

RD is the default timeline. Deadlines are typically January 1–15, with decisions released in late March or early April. You can apply to as many schools as you want RD, and you have until May 1 to choose. This is the most flexible option.

Why it matters

RD is the right choice if you need more time to improve your application (fall senior-year grades, retaken tests, polished essays). The trade-off is lower acceptance rates at selective schools compared to ED/EA.
