STEAM

STEM plus Arts — recognizing that creativity drives innovation.

Deep Dive & Explanation

STEAM adds Arts to the STEM framework: design, music, creative writing, visual arts. The idea is that innovation requires both technical and creative thinking. Some schools and programs specifically market themselves as STEAM-focused.

Why it matters

If you are strong in both math/science and the arts, STEAM programs might be a better fit than traditional STEM tracks. They are also a way to keep your creative interests valued rather than treating them as a hobby.
