Waitlist

Neither admitted nor denied — you might get in if spots open up.

Deep Dive & Explanation

Being waitlisted means the school thinks you are qualified but did not make the initial cut. Waitlist activity happens in May and June after admitted students decline offers. Some years schools take many from the waitlist; other years, zero.

Myth vs. Reality

Myth: "Calling admissions daily shows interest and helps your chances." Reality: It annoys them. One thoughtful letter of continued interest is the right move.

Why it matters

Treat a waitlist as a polite denial and commit to another school by May 1. You can stay on the waitlist as a backup, but do not count on it. If you stay on, send a letter of continued interest and any significant new achievements.
